Our Best Year Yet! 2019!

This year we all punched it together! We’re so excited to ring in 2020 and share a few things that we accomplished in 2019. We roasted 118,000 lbs of coffee and brewed 17,500 gallons of cold brew! We’re so excited that we get to share this milestone with you. Thank you to all of our fans, friends and family who supported our small business throughout the years. We’re happy to be a local brand that you trust and enjoy, while delivering the best of the best to your doorstep across America!

From the very beginning of Backyard Beans, we continue the same resolution to buy American made products as much as we can (our equipment, canning line…etc). And we’re proud to say that we can continue to do so in the coming years. We also purchased our coffees at a premium from transparent sources, which bridged visibility to farm level pricing. A new year’s resolution for us in 2020 is to share with you more prices and visibility so that you can understand where your coffee comes from and pricing.

We also had a lot of changes this year in Lansdale. We moved our roasting and cold brew production from our cafe to a warehouse facility just a few blocks away from our cafe. Moving allowed us to expand our seating in our cafe and open up a scratch kitchen with a farm to table approach. We now craft delicious breakfast sandwiches, toasts, soups, and baked goods… everything that you want to pair with a good coffee in our cafe! Our kitchen is now open daily until 1pm, and after that we still have a few baked goods and grab-and-go sandwiches available for the rest of the day. And it doesn’t stop there, a few months ago we announced that we’re opening cafe #2 in Ambler, PA (Winter/Spring 2020). We’re so pumped that we get to serve such an awesome local community!

Community doesn’t stop there: There are some really great organizations and causes that are in our backyard that we are happy to support and give to. We donated coffee to 40+ organizations this year! We also gave 10% of online and in-store sales to Philly Restart during Giving Tuesday this holiday season. Another resolution for us in 2020 is to do volunteering in our backyard too!

Our sustainable workforce is an amazing team of 18 people. A few of us run sales, others work in production, and we have our cafe staff of baristas and chefs. Our business is small, and certain things come at a premium. We’re extremely proud that we can offer our full time employees health benefits and also a 401k (only eligible to employees that work for us a year or more). That’s why we make decisions to not take coffee origin trips yearly because we’d rather put those finances into our local employees. Our goal is to create sustainability for our local economy.

As with every turning year, we have a few new year’s resolutions and we can’t wait to start them in 2020. We hope you do too!

Thank you to our customers, employees, friends, and family for an awesome 2019! We’ve launched a referral program online a month ago where you can send $5 to your friends to spend in our online store, and once they make a purchase we’ll gift you $5 to use in our online store. Every referral means the world to us! We’re so happy that we could do this together with you and ring in 2020. Happy New Year!
