How to Recycle Your Backyard Beans Coffee Bags

“Reduce, reuse, recycle” is the motto! It’s time for a little refresher on how to properly recycle our coffee bags. At Backyard Beans, we are proud to offer our coffees in recyclable bags. In 2022, we made the shift from commercially compostable bags to recyclable LDPE (low density polyethylene) bags.

Here’s your reminder: You can’t just toss these in your home recycling bin!

How to Recycle LDPE Bags

There are many options for recycling our LDPE coffee bags, which is one of the main reasons we switched to them. These bags are the “greenest” option accessible to everyone, and they result in the cleanest recycling stream when handled properly.

Quick Tips Before We Recycle

Reduce: To cut down on waste, try sizing up to our 2lb or 5lb bags. Fewer bags means less to recycle.
Reuse: Our 12oz bags are perfect for organizing small items like buttons or board game pieces (the tin-tie makes a great seal!). Larger bags also work perfectly as trash liners.

Now, let’s get recycling: Before you start, make sure to remove the sticker label (if present, some bags don’t have a sticker) from the front and pull off the tin-tie. Once the bag is prepped, you can choose any of the following recycling options:

  • Our Lansdale & Ambler Cafes: If you are local to either of our cafes, stop in and drop your bags off in our designated bag collection bin located near our retail coffee shelves.

  • Plastic Collection Bins at Local Grocery Stores: Most grocery stores provide a plastic bag collection bin open to the public. Ask an employee where their recycling area is and simply drop off your bags during your next shopping trip. You can also check out the NexTrex Locator to find the nearest drop-off bin.

  • Curbside & Commercial Recycling Services: If you’d prefer a low effort, bulk pick up from your home, you can find curbside services that will pick up your bags. This way, you don’t have to remember to bring them to the grocery store or on your next run to Backyard Beans.

At Backyard Beans, sustainability and education are at the heart of everything we do. Let’s keep treating the planet right and making greener choices together, one bag at a time.

I have always appreciated your efforts in being eco friendly. I have been ordering online from you all for so long, I remember the compostable bags and was a bit disappointed when the switch happened, only b/c I do have a local grocery store that does commercial composting. I do understand the switch for the masses though. This a great refresher for those new to Backyard Beans or have forgotten. After all of these years, your Organic Punch In the Face are still the best coffee beans that work for me. Thank you for them and all that you all do! Keep up the great work! :-D
